In-person classes
We offer in-person classes! Advance reservations are strongly encouraged, especially during the months of January, June, July, August, and September, as these are our busiest months for enrollment.
Please note, our prices are increasing beginning July 20, 2026. Tuition for individual 1:1 classes will increase from 1,900 to 2,100 Guatemalan Quetzales* per week, and homestays will increase from 800 to 1,000 Guatemalan Quetzales* per week.
Tuition
The current cost of tuition for 1-1 instruction at both PLQ and the Mountain School is 1,900 Guatemalan Quetzales* per week, in addition to a non-refundable US$75 registration fee. The tuition includes 5 hours of class, 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) plus daily activities outside class (talks with invited speakers, documentary and movie screenings, walks and hikes, etc.).
Tuition for group classes is 1,400 Guatemalan Quetzales* per week, in addition to a non-refundable US$75 registration fee. The tuition includes 5 hours of class, 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) plus daily activities outside class (talks with invited speakers, documentary and movie screenings, walks and hikes, etc.). Group classes are only available in our busy season. This usually ends up being the months of January, June, July, August, and the beginning of September.
At PLQ, we only accept tuition payments via cash (Guatemalan Quetzales only), Visa, or Mastercard credit/debit card at the school. At the Mountain School, we are only able to accept cash payments (Guatemalan Quetzales only) for all services. More information about payments is included in the Welcome Packet that will be sent to you following confirmation of your registration.
Homestay
The current cost of homestay families at PLQ and/or living accommodations through the Mountain School is 800 Guatemalan Quetzales per week per person.
Homestays at PLQ in Xela are optional. Students can also opt to stay in hotels, hostels, rental properties, or other lodging. We provide suggestions of places to stay along with other travel information in the welcome packet.
At the Mountain School, staying at the school itself and eating meals with families is the most practical accommodation for nearly all of our students. We have maybe one student each year who is able to make other living arrangements due to personal connections they might have in the area. We do not have suggestions for other places in the area of the Mountain School where students could stay, other than in the community itself.
For all homestay payments, payment must be made in cash (Guatemalan Quetzales only) to the respective school.
Transportation
Upon request, private transportation from/to the airport can be arranged for an additional fee. We provide a link to request private transportation in the welcome packet.
