Transportation Service

Most students travel between the airport (La Aurora International Airport, Guatemala City) and PLQ or the Mountain School (EM) on their own. However, if you are more comfortable traveling with accompaniment, we offer a transportation service. With this service, our driver will bring you directly to the school or the airport – no buses or public transportation are needed. You may utilize this service in either direction, from the airport to PLQ/EM or from PLQ/EM to the airport.

Cost

The cost is Q1,220 from the airport to PLQ, or it is Q1,470 to the Mountain School for 1-2 people. The fee is paid directly to the school (not to the driver). If there are more than two people in a group who are requesting the service, we will share an estimate of the cost with you upon your submission of the form below. The cost is Q350 if you are travelling between PLQ and the Mountain School.

Availability

We can schedule this service any day of the week; however, traveling at night is not commonly practiced in Guatemala. Since it takes 4-5 hours to travel between the airport and Xela, we offer transportation service that leaves from either Xela or Guatemala City between 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, our drivers are somewhat flexible with these hours, so feel free to submit a form if your departure from either city is not too long before or after these hours. If you’re arriving after these hours to the airport, we would otherwise recommend that you stay in the capital for the night and provide us with a day/time and an address where we can pick you up the following day.

Arrival Time at the Airport

If you are trying to make check-in hours at PLQ in Xela to stay with your host family (Sundays, 2-6PM), it’s recommended that you schedule a flight that will arrive by 11AM. This will give you sufficient time for most delays and ensure that you will more likely arrive to meet your family before the school closes for the evening.

Form

Please fill out the form to request the service at least two business days in advance of your travels, and please notate whether you will be arriving to the airport or departing from Xela for the airport.

Please share your exact scheduled flight arrival time when filling out the form. Please do not share a calculated time that you will be leaving from the airport. There are often delays, and this calculation is typically not helpful. Our driver is accustomed to calculating the necessary time for picking up students, and the exact time of the original flight helps our driver confirm and keep track of the flight arrival to the airport.
